Wix Domain Cost (2026): What a Wix Domain Costs After the Free Year
A .com bought through Wix costs nothing in its first year if you redeem the free-domain voucher that comes with an annual Premium plan, and $21.35 a year from the second year on. Without the voucher, Wix lists the same .com at $7.90 for year one. Those are Wix's own published prices, current as of 18 August 2026 and still the figures on its domain article when we read it on 9 Oct 2026.
So the honest answer to "how much does a Wix domain cost" is a two-part one: the opening year is free or nearly free, and the renewal is the real price. This ruling is for anyone budgeting a Wix site beyond the first invoice. If you only want the plan prices, our Wix pricing breakdown holds those; this file deals with the address alone.
The short ruling: $0 in year one, then $21.35 a year for a .com
Read the domain line in three tenses. In year one, an annual or multi-year Premium plan carries a voucher that pays for one new domain. In year two, that domain renews at Wix's standard rate, which for a .com is $21.35, or about $1.78 a month if you spread it. In every year after, the same $21.35 applies unless Wix changes its price list, which it says it may do at any time.
What the voucher does not do is make the domain permanently free. Wix states plainly that payment details are still required at redemption and that the domain renews at the standard rate after the free year. Auto-renew is switched on by default and fires 30 days before expiry, so the first charge arrives a month before the anniversary, not on it.
Wix domain prices by extension (first year vs renewal)
Wix publishes a price table for its most requested endings. The pattern is the same across all of them: a low or modest first year, then a renewal that is often several times higher. The .co.uk is the exception, renewing at $7.90.
| Extension | First year (no voucher) | Covered by the plan voucher? | Renewal per year |
|---|---|---|---|
| .com | $7.90 | Yes | $21.35 |
| .net | $11.90 | Yes | $22.90 |
| .org | $6.90 | Yes | $22.90 |
| .co.uk | $4.90 | Yes | $7.90 |
| .xyz | $0.98 | Yes | $23.82 |
| .online | $6.90 | Yes | $40.90 |
| .biz | $7.90 | Yes | $35.90 |
| .info | $7.90 | Yes | $39.90 |
| .blog | $14.90 | Yes | $44.90 |
The cheapest opening price on the list belongs to .xyz at $0.98, and it renews at $23.82, more than a .com. The steepest renewal is .blog at $44.90. If the extension is a branding choice, make it with the renewal column in view, because that is the number you will pay four times out of five over a five-year run.
One caution for the record. Wix's separate article on what a whole Wix website costs has been reported to quote a different first-year .com figure ($13.35). Wix's domain article, the more specific source, says $7.90. Treat checkout as the final word on the day you buy.
The free-domain voucher: who gets it, the 60-day clock, what it excludes
The voucher is generous but narrow. From Wix's plans page and its domain article, read on 9 Oct 2026, the conditions are these:
- It comes with most yearly or multi-year Premium plans, and with annual Studio plans. Monthly billing does not carry it.
- It is included only with the first purchase of a Premium plan. Renewing or upgrading an existing plan does not issue a new one.
- You have 60 days from buying the plan to redeem it. Wix's domain article phrases the same limit as two months.
- It pays for one new registration. It cannot be put toward a name you already hold, and it does not cover transfers in.
- It covers more than 30 extensions, including .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info and country codes such as .co.uk, .de and .ca. Premium domains are excluded.
- WHOIS privacy is excluded, even when the domain itself is free.
The 60-day clock is the clause most buyers miss. If you buy a plan in a sale and plan to "sort the domain out later", put a reminder in the calendar for day 50. After day 60 the voucher is gone, and a .com costs $7.90 like everyone else's.
Privacy and email: what the domain price leaves out
Two things sit next to the domain on the bill and are easy to mistake for part of it.
WHOIS privacy. Wix describes privacy as an option you can add during registration that keeps your personal contact details out of public records. It is not covered by the voucher, and Wix's domain article does not print a price for it. You will see the cost at checkout. Older guides that call Wix privacy free are out of date on this point.
Business email. A domain gives you the right to an address like [email protected], not a mailbox. Wix sells mailboxes as a separate subscription through Google Workspace. Google's own list price for Business Starter is $7 per user per month on an annual commitment, and new customers are currently shown an introductory $4.90 for up to 20 users, for a limited time (Google's pricing page, as of 9 Oct 2026). Wix shows its own price for the bundle at checkout; compare the two before you commit, because the mailbox will usually outcost the domain within a year.
Five-year cost of a Wix domain vs registering elsewhere and connecting it
Wix lets a Premium site use a domain you already own, so the domain does not have to come from Wix at all. The free plan cannot connect one; a custom domain is a Premium feature. Over five years, the three realistic routes for a .com price out like this:
- Wix, using the voucher: $0 in year one plus four renewals at $21.35 comes to $85.40.
- Wix, paying from year one (no voucher, for example on a second site): $7.90 plus four renewals at $21.35 comes to $93.30.
- An outside registrar, connected to Wix: as one example, Porkbun lists a .com at $11.08 a year both to register and to renew, with WHOIS privacy free (porkbun.com, read 9 Oct 2026). Five years at that rate is $55.40.
The outside route saves about $30 over five years on the domain alone, and more once privacy is counted, because the outside example includes it. What it costs you is convenience: two accounts, two renewal dates, and DNS records you must set once when you connect the domain to Wix. For most owners that is a single afternoon. For some, it is a support ticket they would rather not open.
Transferring a domain in or out of Wix
Wix charges no fee to transfer a domain in or out; the receiving registrar may charge its own. A newly registered domain can move to another registrar 60 days after registration. The voucher cannot be used on a transfer in, so moving an existing domain to Wix means paying Wix's rate from the start.
If a Wix domain expires, Wix describes a grace period of about 30 days in which you can still renew it, and a late fee may apply. After that, the name can become available for anyone else to register. If you are planning to leave Wix entirely, the domain is the one asset that moves cleanly; our file on when to leave Wix sets out the order of operations.
Who should buy the domain through Wix
The court's position is not that Wix domains are a bad buy. It is that the voucher year is a discount, not a price. On the evidence:
- Buy through Wix if this is your first Premium plan, you will redeem the voucher inside 60 days, and you value one bill and one login over about $10 a year saved on a .com renewal.
- Register elsewhere and connect it if you already own the name, if you want privacy included in the price, if you run several sites, or if there is any chance you leave Wix within a few years.
- Pick a .co.uk through Wix with little hesitation if you are a UK business: its $7.90 renewal is the lowest on Wix's list.
If you are ready to buy the plan that carries the voucher, start on Wix's plans page and redeem the domain the same day. If you are still deciding what the full bill looks like, the domain renewal is one line of several in our real cost of a Wix site file, and the free vs premium ruling covers when a custom domain is worth paying for at all. For a verdict on the platform behind the domain, see our Wix review.
Edge cases the price list does not cover
- Second sites. The voucher comes with a first-time Premium purchase. A second plan bought later may not carry one, so price that site's domain at $7.90 plus renewals.
- Upgrades mid-term. Upgrading from Light to Core does not issue a fresh voucher. If you skipped the domain on Light, the original 60-day window is the only one you get.
- Refunds. Domain purchases have no 14-day money-back guarantee, unlike new Premium plans. Wix does not say what happens to a voucher-funded domain if the plan itself is refunded, so ask Wix support before you rely on either outcome.
- Promotions. The figures above are Wix's list prices. If checkout shows a different number on the day, the checkout number is the one you pay, so read the renewal line there too.
